THE MONSTER AND THE MAN
July 20, 1995 This is about how booze can change a warm, loving person into a raging monster. It’s about my father. It wasn’t until I fell into the same “trap” that he did, that I realized that he couldn’t help himself. It was only then that I was able to forgive him. Daddy walked out of my life in 1972. I've recently learned that he passed away on July 8, 2001. I hope that he has finally found peace. OLDIES BUT GOODIES July 20, 1995 They just don’t make music like they used to. Most of what’s coming out today, I wouldn’t even call music. This is a homage to some of my favorite performers. I sent this poem to Bob Shannon of WCBS-FM, and I was thrilled when he read it on the air (August 1, 1995)! IN MY MEMORIES July 21, 1995 When I was younger, summer meant hanging out with the “Bush Street Gang,” or day camp trips to a lot of wonderful places that unfortunately are no longer there. These days, it means concerts with my favorite artists, and trips to places I’ve never been before. I wouldn’t trade the memories for all the gold in Fort Knox! TAKE THIS HAND August 10, 1995 This was another one of those “out of the blue” poems. I have no idea where it came from. I only know that it kept me up all night until I finished it. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but I had to go to work in the morning! MAGICIAN August 12, 1995 I wrote this as a challenge to myself to find a rhyme for “prestidigitation” (it means magic). It was a fun exercise, and I got a pretty good poem out of it too! THE WAYS OF WAR October 6, 1995 This is dedicated to all of the men and women who went to Vietnam, especially those who never made it home. IT SOUNDED LIKE GOOD BYE October 12, 1995 This is about the down side of love. It’s about when love ends. THE LAST THING October 13, 1995 This is about being the last one to know that it’s over.
