WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS
When the music stops,
and the show is done.
I stand and watch the spotlights,
go out one by one.
People think I have it made,
because I am a star.
I’d say to them quite honestly,
close, but no cigar.
There’s no one special in my life,
to share it’s joys and tears.
No one to be proud of me,
when the crowd applauds and cheers.
I’m in no hurry to leave this place,
as anyone can see.
It doesn’t really matter much,
only solitude waits for me.
If heaven would allow it,
I’d give up all I own.
For just one night not to have to,
go home all alone.
I feel so happy on the stage,
making people smile.
But I wish that they could stand,
in my shoes for a while.
My heart is always filled with sadness,
when the curtain drops.
I’ll be all by myself again,
when the music stops.
