THE LADY IN THE HARBOR

One September morning,
not so long ago.
The city I call home,
was dealt a vicious blow.

Two planes had hit the Towers,
and smoke filled up the air.
The Lady in the harbor,
could only stand and stare.

The sound of sirens echoed,
through every city street.
Our heroes ran into the fray,
ignoring flame and heat.

One Tower swayed and crumbled,
the ground just shook and shook.
The Lady in the harbor,
couldn’t bear to look.

Then the second Tower,
gave way and tumbled down.
Smoke and dust now covered,
most of my hometown.

“God in heaven help them,
Father help them please!”
The Lady in the harbor,
fell upon her knees.

“This cannot be happening,
it must be a mistake.
If this is a bad dream,
oh why can’t I awake.”

When the horror of the day,
could no longer be denied.
The Lady in the harbor,
hung her head and cried.

Many lives were lost that day,
we paid a heavy price.
And we will not forget,
their noble sacrifice.

The next morning as she watched,
another F-16 go by.
The Lady in the harbor turned,
as something caught her eye.

Old Glory rose out of the dust,
her colors bright and clear.
Declaring for all the world to see,
“America’s Still Here!”

Yes, America survives,
even stronger than before.
And the Lady in the harbor,
still guards the Golden Door.
